Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in the shade Black Honey has been trending. The pigment is so light that it’s nearly transparent. But the result is a beautiful, glossy color that looks amazing on anyone. Black Honey lipstick is a black cherry lip color and looks incredible on every skin tone. That’s why this lipstick has become a TikTok sensation.
I honestly love sheer lipsticks. I have several glossy lipsticks from Urban Decay and MAC, and I understand why Clinique is jumping on the train. These lipsticks are so moisturizing and give your lips a dose of color when you’re out with friends or are on a date.
At the same time, I understand why the $22 price tag may make you hesitant. You may also want a cruelty-free alternative to Clinique. I considered all of this when I looked for a Clinique Black Honey dupe.
Bottom Line up Front:
Out of all of these dupes, the Glossier Ultralip is the one I recommend. It fits every category: it’s hydrating, the color Ember is almost an exact match, and it has a glossy finish. Unlike Clinique, Glossier is also affordable and cruelty-free. Glossier is still a new brand for me I never tried Glossier products, so I also recommend you take a look at the other brands on this list that I’ve tried, such as elf and ILIA.
My Top Picks Up Front
- Glossier Ultralip in Ember
- Gucci Rouge a Levres Voile Sheer Lipstick in Love Is Better
- Undone Light on Lip in Fine Wine
- elf Hydrating Core Lip Shine in Delightful
- ILIA Balmy Tint in Wanderlust
- Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Wine w/ Everything Pearl
- Burts Bees Glossy Liquid Lipstick in Wine Waters
- Nivea Lip Care in Blackberry
- Honest Vegan Tinted Lip Balm in Dragon Fruit
Tips When Looking for Dupes
I’m someone who loves dupes. While I stick to my main brands, I’m always looking for something better and cheaper. Here are a few secrets I picked up along the way.
Know Where to Shop
Knowing where to shop is the key when looking for all dupes. While you may find some cheaper products on Amazon, that website isn’t the first place I look for dupes since many Amazon listings are fake.
Where do I look? I always start with Target. Their beauty section has become so amazing throughout the years. I know most people make a run for Ulta, but Sephora has started offering more affordable brands over the last few years.
I’ve also been obsessed with Colourpop lately. Their products are always less than $20, and you find so much good stuff. I own several of their palettes, lipsticks, glosses, and more. They also do these fun collaborations. Halloween is around the corner, and I can’t wait to see what they come out with (I hope more Hocus Pocus stuff).
Check Out Reviews
I never buy any new makeup product without seeing reviews. Glamour n’ Glow offers countless reviews of your favorite products. I also recommend going on YouTube and checking out different reviews and tutorials. The brand pages also offer a review section for all of their products. You can find great unbiased reviews, and the reviewers sometimes leave pictures.
In addition to reviews, you can find product swatches for different brands. Let’s use the NYX Butter Glosses as a perfect example. These glosses are often a dupe for more expensive lip glosses. You can go on YouTube and find NYX Butter Gloss swatches to see what the colors look like. This is a great way to find a lip color similar to the Black Honey lipstick.
If all of this fails, I like to use Google. You can either use their normal search or the Shopping section. For example, I typed in “Clinique Black Honey dupe,” and many great products came from Glossier and Burts Bees. Pinterest and Amazon also have similar search features.
How I Chose These Clinique Black Honey Dupes
First, I considered beauty enthusiasts’ different common interests when choosing lipstick. These include price, skincare benefits, and finish.
Of course, I looked for the same traits of the Clinique Black Honey lipstick. These dupes have the same beautiful berry color, intense pigmentation, and a glossy finish. I also highlighted some other interests. For example, Clinique isn’t a cruelty-free brand, so I tried to find dupes where the brands don’t test on animals. I also ensured the dupes were high-quality, not bleeding, fading, or caking around the lips.
My Favorite Dupes to Clinique’s Black Honey Lipstick
Are you ready to discover the best Clinique Almost Lipstick dupes in the shade Black Honey? Here are a few of my favorites.
Glossier’s Ultralip in shade Ember is my favorite dupe to Clinique’s Black Honey. The Ultralip lipsticks are extremely hydrating and have a shiny finish, like the Clinique Almost Lipstick. Ember is a berry-toned deep mauve that’s the closest shade to the Black Honey lipstick.
The only downside of these lipsticks is I don’t think they’re as hydrating as the Clinique Almost Lipstick. However, I also think the Glossier lipsticks are longer lasting than the Clinique ones.
- The color most similar to Black Honey
- Have to apply a few layers for the most intense color
While this Gucci lipstick comes at a higher price tag than the Clinique Almost Lipstick, this is a good dupe if you want something more prestigious.
This sheer lipstick is extremely moisturizing with a slight sheen for a finish. Love Is Better is berry-toned but is softer than Clinique’s Black Honey, so this is a gorgeous color if you want something medium-toned. The color is sheer but buildable, so your lipstick can be as pigmented as you want.
The only downside is it has a floral scent — I prefer scent-free makeup. I’m also in love with the packaging. The lipstick tube has a vintage floral print, inspired by the trends from the 1940s.
- Buildable color
- Applies smoothly
- Beautiful packaging
- Color isn’t as bold as Black Honey
- Can find cheaper lipsticks that work just as well
- Has a weird taste
I love discovering new brands! Undone Beauty offers clean and innovative beauty products. All of their products are cruelty-free and vegan.
They have several lip products, but this lipstick offers an intense shine that rivals the Clinique Almost Lipstick, thanks to the light-reflecting particles. I’m reading that these lipsticks are pretty glittery. Just a heads up for those who prefer shinier lipsticks.
The lipstick feels very smooth, but I don’t think it’s as creamy as the Almost Lipstick. Fine Wine is a sheer dark berry color that still offers the perfect amount of color. This is the perfect color as a dupe for Black Honey and for those who want to experiment with darker lipsticks. The lipstick costs $10, significantly cheaper than Clinique. But at around 0.3 ounces, the Undone lipstick is smaller (the Clinique Almost Lipstick is 0.6 oz).
- Perfect Black Honey color dupe
- Color is light
- Often run out of colors
- Can be messy
elf is one of my favorite drugstore brands. Their products are not only affordable but effective. I have their makeup products, and I’m also falling in love with their skincare.
This product is more of a lip shine than a lipstick. But since this dupe costs $7, I’m sure that won’t bother many people. Like the Clinique lipstick, the Lip Shine is very hydrating. Vitamin E nourishes your lips, and this product feels healthy.
Delightful is a berry-toned color that’s more on the natural side. I’m reading that these products have a taste and scent, so be wary of that if you don’t like these qualities in lipstick.
- Natural berry color
- Minimal color payoff
ILIA is a brand that makes clean beauty products with skincare benefits. This is also a sustainable brand and is cruelty-free. They’re on the pricey side, but they have become one of my favorite brands. This is a tinted lip balm rather than lipstick, but it’s extremely hydrating with rosehip seed oil, salicornia, and shea butter.
The color Wanderlust is a cool-toned berry. It gives more of a flush of color rather than the deep berry of Black Honey, so you may want to give these a few swipes for more intense pigmentation. These lip tints also don’t have as much glossy finish, but they apply as smoothly as the Almost Lipstick.
The only downside is that Wanderlust may not look as flattering on those with warm skin tones. I suggest trying the shade Lady, a neutral cranberry if this sounds like you.
- Close color to Black Honey
- Perfect amount of color
- Can layer on for more color
- Beautiful packaging
- Color may not be bold enough for some
- Tacky feeling
Revlon isn’t my favorite brand in the world, but I’ve had some lipsticks in the past, and I consider them a good dupe for many expensive brands. I wanted to find a more accessible drugstore dupe, and this was the first brand that came to mind. At $10, this lipstick should fit nearly every budget.
Keep in mind that I couldn’t find an exact color replica of Black Honey. Wine w/ Everything Pearl is a medium-toned berry color with shimmer. These lipsticks also have a more creamy finish than the Clinique Almost Lipstick. This color is pigmented, but I suggest applying multiple coats or combining it with another lipstick if you want a darker color.
- Not an exact Black Honey color replica
- Customers complained that the product breaks easily
Out of all of Burt’s Bees lip products, I think these liquid lipsticks are underrated. I’ve tried a couple of the lip tints and wasn’t impressed. They’re ultra-hydrating, and the finish is glossy as opposed to matte, which I’m used to in liquid lipstick.
I do have to say that the color Wine Waters is redder than berry, but Burt’s Bees is sold out of most of their berry colors. Otherwise, it’s very pigmented and wears very comfortably — the texture isn’t too thick or sticky. Plus, it’s 100% natural. The only downside is the color isn’t long-lasting.
- Excellent staying power
- Not an exact Black Honey color dupe
- Customers said this is more like a lip gloss than a liquid lipstick
I love Nivea chapstick. They make my lips feel so soft and smooth. Nivea formulates their chapstick with jojoba oil, shea butter, and cherry extract to keep lips hydrated. These chapsticks are tinted, and blackberry is such a pretty color. Plus, these are more pigmented than I expected. These chapsticks are about $7 at Walmart. The only downside is these chapsticks have a fragrance and may irritate sensitive skin.
- Make lips feel soft
- Nivea is a trusted name
- Great color payoff
- Have to keep reapplying to moisturize your lips and retain color
The Honest Company is a brand formed by actress Jessica Alba. This company is sustainable, clean, cruelty-free, and vegan. In addition to beauty products, they also sell clothing, diapers, and cleaning products. Their products are affordable, and you can find them at popular retailers such as Amazon and Target.
These tinted lip balms are extremely hydrating and formulated with avocado oil and acai extracts. While Plum Drop is more comparable to Black Honey, the Honest website is currently out of this color. Dragon Fruit is the closest shade, which is more of a fuchsia than a deep berry. The product is easy to apply, and the packaging is simple yet sleek.
The color is more on the sheer side, though it is buildable if you want the shade to be more intense. The balm also has more of a wet look than a truly glossy look. Plus, many customers complained that the balm was sticky.
- Smells like vanilla
- Not long-lasting
Question: Why is Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey so popular?
Answer: While writing this article, I couldn’t understand why the Clinique Almost Lipstick in that particular color was so popular. It was become a sensation, especially on TikTok. The secret behind the lipstick is Black Honey looks amazing on everyone. I also argue that you can find a similar shade from any of these dupes.
Question: Is Black Honey warm or cool-toned?
Answer: It’s technically warm-toned but moderate enough to where those with cool undertones can pull off this color. I recommended some neutral and cool-toned lipstick dupe shades, so I suggest trying those if you’re unsure about using Black Honey.
Question: Can a deep red be a dupe for Black Honey?
Answer: It can be if you prefer red lipstick over berry. For example, I recommended the Burt’s Bees Liquid Lipstick in a color that was more on the red side. It won’t look like a twin, but it will be close.
Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Black Honey is extremely popular, but it’s also expensive, and Clinique isn’t a cruelty-free brand. You may want to consider a dupe before getting this product.
Out of all of these lipsticks, I recommend the Glossier Ultralip as a dupe for the Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. Glossier is a brand that has been trending lately, and I want to try its products. The Ultralip lipstick is cheaper than the Almost Lipstick and offers similar results.
This lipstick has positive reviews for its moisturizing effects and long-lasting color. The color is also nearly identical to Black Honey. I know you can buy Glossier online, but I’m not sure if their products are available anywhere else, which is why I also included many drugstore dupes here. I suggest you consider some newer and underrated brands, such as Undone Beauty.
